To popularise the practice of Agroecological farming, ICI conceived the idea for setting up a centre of excellence with the name ‘Maa Mati’ (mother soil). The purpose of ‘Maa Mati’ was to revive the age old organic agricultural practices with scientific way to make it more sustainable. The four mothers’ concept— Maa (Mother), Maa Mati (Mother soil), Bihan Maa (Seed Mother), Go Mata (mother cow), and, which play a significant role in human lives, formed the basis for conceptualising ‘Maa Mati’—as a centre of excellence on organic farming.
